Where to Stay Near Milano Centrale: Tips and the Right Area

Staying near Centrale Station is the most convenient choice if you arrive by train, fly out soon after or only have a few days: you are one stop from the centre and the whole city is connected by metro. But not every street around the station is the same: here is how to choose well.

Treno alla Stazione di Milano Centrale

From the suite to Milano Centrale: about a 10-minute walk
Metro: M1 Lima about 5 minutes away, M1/M2 Loreto close by
Tip: choose a quiet street a few minutes from the station, not right in front of the platforms

Why stay near Centrale Station

Milano Centrale is the hub for high-speed trains to Rome, Florence, Venice and Turin, the Malpensa Express and the buses to Bergamo airport. Staying a few minutes’ walk away means:

  • arriving with your suitcase and no taxi;
  • having two metro lines (green M2 and yellow M3) under the station and the red M1 a short walk away;
  • leaving early for a day trip without stress.

If your trip includes excursions, also read our guide to day trips from Milan.

Which streets to choose (and which to avoid)

The square in front of the station and the streets right behind it are busy and, in the evening, less pleasant. It is much better to move 5–10 minutes towards Corso Buenos Aires and Lima, or towards Porta Venezia: residential streets, bars and restaurants open late, and supermarkets and pharmacies on your doorstep.

This is also where our property is, at Via Saverio Mercadante 10: a quiet street about a 10-minute walk from Centrale and 2 minutes from Corso Buenos Aires.

Airports: Malpensa, Linate and Bergamo

The Malpensa Express and the buses to Malpensa and Bergamo airport (Orio al Serio) leave from Centrale. For Linate you use the blue M4: from the suite take the M1 to San Babila and change. Full details, with times and tickets, are in our guide to getting here from the airports.

Hotel, apartment or suite?

Around the station you mostly find large business hotels. If you prefer more privacy and space, a suite with its own entrance is a good compromise:

  • self check-in, handy if you arrive late at night on the last train;
  • luggage storage before check-in and after check-out, so you can make the most of your last day in the city;
  • coffee machine, fridge and Smart TV in the room.
