Lake Como day trip from Milan: trains, boats and what to see

About 40 minutes by train from Milano Centrale: Como, Brunate and Bellagio in one day.

Bellagio sul Lago di Como

Lake Como is the easiest day trip from Milan: in about 40 minutes by train you’re on the lakeshore. Here’s how to plan your day starting from the suite.

Getting there

Option 1

From Milano Centrale to Como San Giovanni

Trenord regional train, about 40 minutes, roughly every hour. Milano Centrale station is a 10-minute walk from the suite. From Como San Giovanni it’s about a 15-minute walk down to the lake.

Option 2

From Milano Cadorna to Como Nord Lago

Trenord train, about 1 hour. The arrival station is a few minutes from the lakefront and the funicular to Brunate. From Via Mercadante you can reach Cadorna on the M1 red line from Lima, with no changes.

A day on the lake

Morning

Como town centre and cathedral

Stroll through the old town to the cathedral, then along the lake towards Villa Olmo.

Late morning

Funicular to Brunate

In just a few minutes you ride up to Brunate for a view over the whole southern basin of the lake.

Afternoon

Boat to Bellagio or Tremezzo

From Piazza Cavour, Navigazione Laghi ferries and hydrofoils run to the lake’s most famous villages, such as Bellagio and Tremezzo with Villa Carlotta.

Evening

Back to Milan

Train from Como San Giovanni or Como Nord Lago, then dinner near the suite: you’ll find our tips in the Where to eat guide.
