Verona day trip from Milan: the Arena, Juliet and Piazza delle Erbe

Just over an hour by train to the Arena, Juliet’s House, Piazza delle Erbe and the view from Castel San Pietro.

Arena di Verona

Train: from Milano Centrale to Verona Porta Nuova, about 1 hour 15 minutes
Time needed: a full day
In summer: the opera festival at the Arena

Getting there

From Centrale, high-speed trains reach Verona Porta Nuova in just over an hour. From the station to the centre it’s about a 20-minute walk or a few minutes by bus.

The Arena and Piazza Bra

The Roman amphitheatre towers over Piazza Bra. In summer it hosts the famous opera festival: seeing an opera under the stars is a unique experience, but if you’re heading back to Milan the same night, check the time of the last train.

The old town

  • Via Mazzini, the main shopping street, leads to Piazza delle Erbe and its market.
  • Juliet’s House, with the most famous balcony in the world.
  • Piazza dei Signori and the Torre dei Lamberti, with views from the top.

The view

Cross the Roman Ponte Pietra and climb up to Castel San Pietro for the finest view over the city and the Adige river, perfect at sunset.
