Day trips
Less than two hours by train to Brunelleschi’s cathedral, the Uffizi, Ponte Vecchio and sunset over Piazzale Michelangelo.
Train: high-speed from Milano Centrale to Firenze Santa Maria Novella, about 2 hours
Time needed: a full day
Book ahead: Brunelleschi’s Dome and the Uffizi
Take one of the first high-speed trains from Centrale: you’ll arrive at Santa Maria Novella, right in the centre, and can explore everything on foot. Book tickets in advance for the sights with timed entry.
Piazza del Duomo with the cathedral, the Baptistery and Giotto’s Bell Tower. Climbing Brunelleschi’s Dome means tackling a lot of steps, but the view is worth it.
If you love art, spend the afternoon at the Uffizi (Botticelli, Leonardo, Michelangelo). Alternatively, cross Ponte Vecchio and lose yourself among the artisan workshops of the Oltrarno and Palazzo Pitti.
Head up to Piazzale Michelangelo for a view over the whole city, then come back down for a quick dinner before the evening train to Milan.
Stay just steps away
